Obituary of Donald Damato

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Donald A. Damato, 68, of Norwalk, passed away on the morning of September 9 at Wilton Meadows. He was the husband of Cynthia (Petropoulos) Damato.

Don was a family man.  He loved his wife, Cindy, and their three daughters, Megan, Lauren and Lexi and his grandchildren more than anything. He adored being a Papou to Collin, JT, Myles, and Rylie. Don converted to Greek Orthodoxy after marrying Cindy, his high school sweetheart. Their love withstood the test of time; they recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. Don was the life of the party, witty and always cracking jokes. Don’s positive personality had an impact on his family, his friends, and even his daughters’ friends who remember him fondly. He enjoyed annual family trips to Disney World and Shawnee, PA.  His love for football crossed generations as he would reminisce with high school friends and his family. He and his two brothers, Frank and Phil grew up in Norwalk around the corner from the home that Don raised his family in. It was typical for his older brothers to play jokes on him when he was younger. He loved music, especially Motown, dancing and singing, often with his brothers. In recent years he enjoyed going to concerts at the beach with his brother, Frank, and going to men’s dinners with friends and men in the family. Don was always a big presence in the lives of his many nieces and nephews and was truly part of the family with his brothers and sisters in law.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10 from 4-8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk.

His Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, September 11, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.

Memorial donations may be made to:  the Lewy Body Dementia Association, at: https://www.lbda.org.
