Obituary of Berryl Denise Robinson

Please share a memory of Berryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Berryl Denise Robinson Edwards was born on April 5, 1959 in Camden, South Carolina and entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2024 at Norwalk Hospital, in Norwalk, CT. Berryl was affectionately known as “Neicy” to most and Ms. Berryl to others. Neicy graduated from Bassick High School and later attended Claflin University, pursuing a degree in teaching. Coming from a long line of educators, her background has always been teaching and helping others. No matter where she was or what state she lived in, South and North Carolina, New York and Connecticut, she was always a leader, a creator, club member or a humble part of a productive group. From her 4H Club chapter in Whiteville, NC to Girl Scout Leader in Connecticut. Neicy was always involved with teaching and training the kids, making sure no child was left out. She was also in finance, where she worked for the bank as a supervisor/ bank teller and there she trained new employees. She also had a bit of retail experience, as she loved fashion, clothes (and also loved that employee discount). Neicy was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was also a member of the Senior Choir, and she also served as a member of the Missionary Board. She held the title of Secretary for the Connecticut & Virginia Club, in Norwalk, CT. “Miss Berryl” was also co-founder, organizer and counselor at Unique & Unified, a nonprofit after school and summer program, in Bridgeport, CT with her close friend, and co-founder, “Miss Denese”. Neicy was loved by everyone she met, kids and adults and will be painfully missed by all. She was like the energizer bunny, anytime anybody said they were going somewhere or doing something the first thing she said was “Me too… I’m going” And she really showed up! From Amusement parks to Roller skating… you name it, she wasn’t taking no for an answer! If you bring her to any store, she’ll figure out a way to stay in there for 4 hours (minimum). She loved to cook, laugh, sing and dance and was absolutely crazy about her grandchildren. “Nah-Nah” as they called her, made sure her grandchildren knew exactly who she was. When she took her grandchildren, although she said, “I’ll bring them back later" that usually was a week-end, week or sometimes the entire summer later and they enjoyed every moment with her. Predeceased by her husband of many years, Dennis Edwards, her mother, Gladys P. Green, her brother-in-law, John “Dolo” Ragin and her twin nephews, Andre & Anton Green, all who I’m sure greeted her upon her arrival to Heaven. Neicy leaves so many behind who loved her dearly. Her children Crystayl Edwards, Dontae Edwards and Iesha Edwards (David Mitchell 3rd) all of Bridgeport, CT. Her father, Deacon Barney Green Sr. of Stratford, CT. Three siblings, Barney “Budd” Green, Jr. (Deidre Green), Memmorye “Shonda” Green, both of Stratford, CT and Mellodye “Sweets” Green-Ragin of Norwalk, CT. Eight Grandchildren, Na’Jae Edwards, who she shared a very close relationship with who lived with her for years and at the time of her passing. Dontae Edwards, Jr., Aaliyah Mitchel, Kyree Edwards, David Mitchell 4th, Inez Wilson, Nylan Brown, Enzo Mitchell and one great granddaughter whom she adored, Kalani Goldson. Her niece who she referred to as her “Gra-neice” because she said she was her granddaughter/niece, Zoe Re Ragin, and made up the name “Nahntie” for her to call her. (Nah-Nah & Auntie). Her two Nephews, Theodore “PeeJaye” Briggs, Phillip “Redman” Jones and two nieces Venita Bledsoe and Khennedee Green. One Godbrother, Bruce McKoy of Stratford, CT. Her close friend, co-founder / partner at Unique & Unified and road dog, Miss Denese Taylor-Moye of Bridgeport, CT. A bunch of great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and business associates who will miss life without her. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 96 South Main St, Norwalk, CT. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, CT
