Nathan Thorne was born May 7, 1941, in Pinetops, North Carolina born to the late Ammie Thorne, raised by the late Buddy and Tina Dancy Nathan received his education in North Carolina years before relocating to Norwalk, Connecticut. He worked several years for the Bridgeport Brass Company and then eventually for Mediplex of Westport where he would work up until his retirement. Nathan was a hard worker who loved family and always had a funny comment followed by a bolstering laugh. Nathan, affectionately called “Pop or Papa” brought an added touch of joy to any gathering and was truly gifted with a spirit of hospitality. Many described him as a kind and humble man; never a raised voice or sharp tongue. There was little evidence of illness as Papa was never one to complain. When asked, “How you doing Pop?” he’d always reply, “Ohhh, I feel like I’m twenty-one!!”. Nathan kept this spirit even up to the days prior to his transition, often thanking us all for “coming by to check on the young man”. His fun and lively presence will be missed by family and all who knew him. Nathan is survived by his children, Nathan Thorne Jr., Danny (Jennifer) Thorne, Timmy (Rena) Thorne, April (Idis) Thorne-Wilson, and Stanley Thorne. He was a loving father figure to three daughters; Cynthia Holcomb, Shaunda (Carl) Gaskin, and Melissa (Paul) Charles, whom he shared with his long time friend and mate, Madelean Holcomb. Nathan leaves to cherish fifteen grandchildren, four great-grands, six siblings, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM, Baker Funeral Service Chapel, 84 South Main Street, Norwalk, CT. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service at the chapel. Graveside service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM, Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave, Norwalk, CT.
