Obituary - Sholen “Shorty” A. Powe Sholen “Shorty” A. Powe entered peacefully into eternal rest on March 5, 2024 in the hospital of Marietta, GA. Sholen was born, January 31, 1958 to Elva Powe-Purefoy and the late James Lewis Crockett in Lancaster, South Carolina. He was raised in the home of his stepfather, the late Alton J. Purefoy, Jr and his mother, Elva Purefoy. He attended elementary, middle school, and Rippowam high school in Stamford then transferred to Norwalk until he matriculated at Brien McMahon in 1976. Sholen was a promising athlete, he aided in winning Rippowam Track and Field State Championship in 1974 and played football as punt return specialist. At Brien McMahon, he helped bring his team the first win against Greenwich High School in 1975 with NFL Hall of Fame Football player Steve Young. Into his adult years, he continued to enjoy the game. Sholen’s favorite football team was the San Francisco 49ers and the La Lakers. After graduating from Brien McMahon, he retained employment at the Nash Engineer Company, Harold Keenan Delivery, Emery and FedEx. While in Conn., during the summer months, Sholen was well known by the community for the ice cream truck he drove through the surrounding areas of Norwalk. Later, he relocated to Marietta, Georgia where he retired from Chatham Landscape Services. Shorty’s outgoing personality brought joy and love to his family and friends. He enjoyed making you laugh and that you had a good time in his company. His absence leaves a void in our lives, he will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his mother; Elva Powe-Purefoy, two sons; Jason Hall Sr., Bryan Powe, one daughter; Raquel Powe, two grandsons; Jason Jr, Josiah, three granddaughters; Summer, Savanna, Ayla, and one great granddaughter; Kaelynn Hall; four sisters; Bellenia Jackson Fort Mills, S.C., Myrna Kennely Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Veronda Purefoy Edward Chapel Hill, N.C., Valerie Little Atlanta, GA., his former wife of his children; Monique Powe and a special niece; Saige Bryan. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sholen was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 10:00am – 11:00am followed by a service of celebration at 11:00am at Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Rev. Dr. Lindsay E. Curtis, Officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
