Dorothy (Draves) Parker, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Donald H. Parker. Dorothy, also known as Dottie or Dot to her friends, Sis to her family, and Grammy/MeMe to her grandchildren, was born on May 13, 1940 in Norwalk, CT, daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy (Stratton) Draves. Dottie graduated from Norwalk High School and started a career as a nurse’s aide at Norwalk Hospital. She and Don together made their home in Norwalk and Milford before settling in Cheshire. Dottie also worked at The Cheshire Convalescent Home for many years before retiring to care for her grandchildren. Dottie loved nothing more in this world than taking care of her family, her patients, and talking on the phone to her many friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and trips to Cape Cod, Maine, Newport and Mystic. She was known for her warm smile and welcoming demeanor, making friends wherever she went. Dottie is the beloved mother of her two devoted daughters Kelly Horton and her husband, James, of Cheshire, CT and Dawn O’Connor also of Cheshire. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Danielle Powers, and her husband, David, of Terryville, CT, Sean Horton and great-grandchildren Zoe and Madison Powers. Lastly, she is survived by her niece Robin King, nephew Richard (Nicole) Williamson, nephew Michael (Chris) Matese and her WV family. In addition to her husband and parents, Dottie was also predeceased by her sister Barbara Williamson, grandson Ryan O’Connor and her best friend who was like a sister Daphne Ball. The family would like to thank all the staff at Midstate Medical Center for their wonderful care, especially her favorites who went above and beyond. Relatives and friends may greet Dottie’s family on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street.
