Obituary of Gloria M. Breese

Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gloria M. Breese Gloria M. Breese, known to most as Gram, passed away on August 9, 2021, at the age of 95. She passed peacefully surrounded by family, friends, and an abundance of love. Despite a long battle with Alzheimer's and stage 4 cancer (which she couldn't remember either of), she always maintained a contagious sense of humor, dignity and a joy for life.. Gloria was born to Elizabeth and John MacInnis on October 20, 1925, in Norwalk, Connecticut. She worked at Perkin-Elmer for over 30 years where she helped make parts for the Hubble Telescope. It is here where she made lifelong friends with Antoinette and Pauline. Long into her 90's, Gloria was the self-appointed chauffeur frequenting diners and taking advantage of their senior coffee discount. Gloria had an incredible knack for being at ease among strangers, finding commonalities, and engaging others. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She was an avid sports fan rooting for her beloved Mets and Red Sox. She loved visiting her family's camp on Rangeley Lake in Maine, listening to Glen Miller, bowling, attending Norwalk AARP meetings, Weight Watchers with "the girls," and her EVERY Saturday visits to Smart Set to get her hair done. Gloria was a faithful member of St. Matthews Church attending the Sunday, 7:30 am Mass, religiously. Until her granddaughter took her car away (at the age of 93) she was a regular visitor of Stop & Shop, Duchess, Uncle Joe's Pizza, and in the summertime, Calf Pasture Beach. She was always looking for the next adventure. Gloria is survived by her granddaughter, Melissa Fahey, and her wife Karen Burke, grandson Kevin Fahey, and her beloved great-grandchildren, Jordan Chan (Andrew Hernandez) Quinn, Brody, and Joseph Fahey, Natashia Benway, (Keith) and Cheyanne Colon (Bryan) and Ella Rose. Additionally, her son-in-law Fred Chan, with whom she shared a cherished bond, Danielle McGaharan, and her brother Donald MacInnis (Lorna) and their children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward Breese, sister, Kathryn MacInnis, grandson, Edward Eric Gillott and in 2014, her daughter, Karin Cable. Gloria never said no to anyone and will always be remembered for her kindness, humility, limitless generosity, and unwavering wit. We know she is watching over us, reminding us that she is still 29 years young, to take off our jackets and stay awhile, not to open an umbrella in the house, and to always leave through the same door we came in. Her essence remains among us and, will continue to guide us. Gloria's family wishes to thank VITAS Hospice, especially Fran Daves and Nicole for the care they provided during the last two years. Additionally, we are incredibly grateful to her "visiting angel" Roberta Sheehy for the genuine friendship and love she showed Gram in the last years of her life. Roberta's weekly visits and outings meant the world to Gram. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 15, 2021, at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Boston Post Road Darien with Father Francis Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be held privately.
