Richard “Dick” Vetare Sr., 85, husband of the late Nancy Jane Vetare, passed away in the early morning hours on February 18th at his home in Norwalk CT. He was born on August 9, 1935 in Croton Falls, NY, the son of the late Frank and Caroline Vetare. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1953 and then went on to a lifetime of service. First serving his country in the U.S. Army, and then serving his community as both a decorated member of the Norwalk Police Department and as an investigator for the Norwalk Court House. As a lifelong baseball fan, one of Dick’s fondest memories was when he tried out for the New York Yankees. He was an avid reader and history buff, but his favorite pastime was telling stories. He loved to reminisce with friends and family about the “good old days.” Dick is survived by his three sons; Richard Vetare Jr. and his wife Marsha of Monroe, Scott Vetare and his wife Lynn of Norwalk, and David Vetare and his wife Dana of Shelton; his grandchildren Michael Vetare, Steven Vetare and Shelby Vetare all of Norwalk. He is also survived by his brothers Frank Vetare and Gabriel Vetare. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother Ferdinand Vetare and his sister Carmella Vetare Mazure. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave Norwalk CT . (Social distancing guidelines will be followed.) A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Church, East Ave Norwalk CT . Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery Norwalk CT. Donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County @ visitingnurse.net.
