Bernadine Tatem age 74, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at her home. Bernadine Tatem was born on July 27, 1946 in Norwalk, Connecticut to the late Civil Rights and Community Activist, Mary T. “Bea” Brown. Bernadine was raised by Theodore A. Brown, Sr., an employee of Dupont until retirement. Bernadine attended Norwalk Public Schools and was active in the workforce until her late 20’s. From a very early age, Bernadine attended Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, later becoming a member. She participated and contributed to multiple fundraisers and events; and later served on a The Housing Authority Board and The NEON Board, until her health prevented her to continue. Bernadine had a “tell it like it is” attitude that left a memorable impression with everyone she came in contact with. She always had a special presence about her and a positive energy that was always noticeable with family and friends. Often in the mood for seafood, Bernadine made her craving for jumbo shrimp a familiar one. She genuinely loved getting together with family and friends, especially during the holiday season. Bernadine’s laugh was irreplaceable (she loved to laugh and have fun) and she would light up the room with her unique persona, that had the tendency to uplift those in her presence. Bernadine had accepted Christ as her personal Savior and Lord. She was a very loving person, with a gracious heart and beautiful spirit. She cherished all the well wishes and authentic compassion given to her throughout her life. She was loved beyond measure and will be missed dearly. Bernadine was a caring daughter, loving mother, loyal sister, and enthusiastic Aunt. Bernadine leaves behind her Father Theodore A. Brown Sr, Mother (predeceased) Mary T. “Bea” Brown, Daughter Andrea Tatem, Son Derrick Tatem, Sister (predeceased) Michelle Tatem-Lynch, Brother Darnell Tatem, Brother Theodore A. Brown Jr, Sister-in-law Lashaun Brown, Niece Denise N. Brown, Grand-Daughter Cierra Tatem and a host of relatives and friends. A walk through visitation will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will follow immediately after the visitation. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Ave, Norwalk, CT.
