Dilia Mercedes Barrios Obituary

Dilia Barrios

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dilia Barrios, who died unexpectedly on May 31, 2026, while on vacation in Jamaica with her beloved husband, Carlos.

Dilia was born on March 14, 1930, in Barranquilla, Colombia, to Manuel Barrios Vásquez and Dilia Barrios Herrera. She carried throughout her life the warmth, strength, and vibrant spirit of her Colombian heritage, remaining deeply devoted to her family and her faith.

She shared 65 devoted years of marriage with her beloved husband, Carlos Barrios, building a life grounded in love, faith, resilience, and generosity. Family remained at the center of her life, and she found her greatest fulfillment in caring for those she loved.

Dilia dedicated many years of service to United Jersey Bank, remaining with the institution through its transition to People’s Bank, from which she ultimately retired. She took great pride in her work and the lasting friendships she formed throughout her career.

A faithful Catholic, Dilia was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Fairfield, Connecticut. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life and was reflected in her compassion, generosity, and devotion to others.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, warm heart, welcoming smile, and quiet strength. Whether preparing a meal, sharing stories, or offering a listening ear, she had a remarkable gift for making others feel at home. Her kindness and selflessness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She also found great joy in music, travel, and dancing, which enriched her life and brought happiness to those around her.

Dilia was predeceased by her adored son, Juan Carlos; her sister, Guadalupe; and her brother, Jose Nicolas Barrios, affectionately known as “Mono.” She is now reunited with them in eternal peace.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Carlos Barrios; her cherished son, Alejandro Barrios, and his wife, Melissa; her dear friends, Lilyan Serrano and Carlos Paz, and their son, Marcello, whom she loved as her own; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered prayers, messages, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a source of great comfort as they mourn her loss and honor her life.
