Sandor Kovacs Obituary
Sandor “Alex” Kovacs, 87, husband of the late Mary Ann (Rebo) Kovacs and father of the late Sandor Kovacs Jr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, following a short stay at Candlewood Valley Rehabilitation Center in New Milford.
Born in Hungary, Alex came to the United States in 1956 at the age of 18 during the Hungarian Revolution. He spent the rest of his life in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and the simple joys he loved most.
Alex worked for many years as a butcher, most recently with Food Emporium, until his retirement in 2006.
In his younger years, Alex enjoyed playing soccer and remained a devoted fan of both soccer and hockey throughout his life. He took great pride in caring for his yard and garden and especially loved feeding and watching the animals that visited his backyard.
He is survived by his daughter, Erika Hall, and her husband, Kevin, of New Milford, Connecticut; many nieces and nephews; two step-grandsons; and two step-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife and son.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Ave, Norwalk, CT 06851.
