Michael Williams Keels, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, entered this world on October 22, 1993, in Atlanta, Georgia, and departed all too soon on Monday, June 19, 2023, while at his residence in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Michael grew up in Norwalk, where he was lovingly raised by his adoptive parents, the late Clifford Keels, affectionately known as Pops, and his dear Mimi, Pastor Elizabeth Keels. He attended Brookside Elementary,Roton Middle School and graduated from Brien McMahon, where he was known for his charisma and positive attitude.


A faithful member of the Gethsemane Garden Baptist Church in New York, Michael served as an Usher, consistently demonstrating exceptional grace and dedication to this calling. Michael spread cheer and love wherever he went, be it the Church, family gatherings, or outings with friends. His compassion for others, respectful nature, and easygoing personality made him a beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend. Michael held his family in the highest regard, cherishing this bond with unwavering devotion. His radiant smile illuminated every room he entered, and his engaging conversations transcended boundaries, effortlessly connecting him with people from all walks of life. Michael never encountered a stranger. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel valued and heard.


Football held a special place in Michael's heart, and he displayed his passion for the sport by participating in two semi-professional teams. Accounts of his unparalleled dedication to the sport are overwhelming. His devotion and dedication to his team have been widely shared on social media, testifying to his commitment and determination. Many have commented on Michael never missing a practice, even if it meant riding a bicycle in the rain, taking a train, a bus, or all three!


Michael was preceded in death by his grandmother, Violet Gordon, brother Louis Nieves Jr., and his grandfather, Deacon Jacob Oliver. He is survived by his biological mother, Pauline Gordon, from Jamaica, and his adoptive mom, Pastor Elizabeth Keels (Mimi) of Norwalk. Additionally, he leaves behind a cherished daughter, Rosella Violet Criss, from Norwalk, along with two brothers: Jamel Keels (Mariana) of Greenwich and Antoine Keels of Norwalk. His sister-in-law, Tara Keels of West Haven, and grandmother, Overseer Earlean Oliver of New York, were also part of his loving circle. His aunts will fondly remember him: Katherine and Gwen Keels of Norwalk, Dorothy Keels of Orangeburg, SC, Gelain Shaw of Holly Hill, SC, Barbara Keels of Bridgeport, Fernesta Little of New York, Barbara White of Rockwell, GA, Althea Fagan of Spring Hill, FL, Joan Gordon, and Pamela Gordon of Norwalk. Furthermore, he is survived by his uncle, Robert Gordon of Washington State, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, each holding a special place for him in their hearts.


The memory of Michael's humor-filled and caring spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of many. All who had the privilege of knowing him will feel his absence deeply.


A Celebration of Mr. Keels' life will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 4:00 PM, Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, 31 Concord Street, Norwalk, CT. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be private.
