Konstantinos "Gus" Aslandis Obituary

Konstantinos (Gus) Aslanidis, 92, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, less than one month shy of his 93rd birthday.

Born to Ioannis and Asteropi Aslanidis on November 14, 1932, in Batumi, Georgia, formerly of the USSR, Kosta, or "Kostaki" as he was affectionately called by his parents and friends, was the 2nd youngest and the last surviving of four siblings.

Kosta was pre-deceased by his parents, his older sister Valentina Stefanidis, his older brother Panagiotis Aslanidis, and his younger brother, Alexandros Aslanidis.

The Aslanidis family had settled in Batumi, along with other Pontian Greek families, as it became a safe haven for Pontian Greeks fleeing Ottoman persecution. As history repeated, the family left Batumi to escape Communist prosecution, moving first to Patra, Greece, before finally settling in Thessaloniki, where Kosta spent his youth.

In 1966, Kosta followed his two older siblings and emigrated from Greece to Norwalk, CT, where he joined the vibrant and flourishing Greek community. They were all eventually joined by his younger brother and parents.

While initially doing odd jobs, Kosta found his long-term career as a dedicated machine operator at Hicks & Otis, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring.

Kosta had a true zest for life and was a familiar, welcome face in the Greek community. He loved spending time at the two Jai alai frontons and hanging out with his many friends at the Greek social clubs in Norwalk. He had a deep passion for live Greek music and could almost always be found on Friday and Saturday evenings at the ‘bouzoukia’ originally at "Dielina”, and more recently at Silver Star.

Kosta was also a loyal supporter and avid fan of the Greek football club PAOK.

Above all, Kosta was a cherished uncle and brother-in-law. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sisters-in-law, Kalliopi Aslanidis and Panagiota Aslanidis. His memory will be treasured by his nieces, Asteropi Stefanidis, Asteropi Aslanidis, Phyllis Petridis, Yianna Gergely, Zoi Maniatis, his nephew, John Aslanidis, as well as their respective spouses.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at his viewing on Tuesday, October 28th, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk.

May his memory be eternal.
