Mary Bennett, formerly Mary Giorchino, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, and a fixture in the Norwalk public school system for more than 25 years , died peacefully in her sleep on December 30, 2023. Mary was 98. She is survived by her five sons, Edward; Wayne & his wife Joyce; Kirk and his wife Joan; Mathew ; and Jason and his wife Sharon. Her husband Russell pre-deceased her.

She was the matriarch of a family of eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, the most recent being Miles, eighteen months old.

At her death, Mary was a resident of the Marvin, in East Norwalk. She thrived there for more than ten years, thanks to her fellow residents, and administrators , Leticia (Lee) Croke and Brooke Knowles.

She loved music and she loved to dance. She is probably doing the “Lindy” with Russell as you read this.

Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan.3 from 5-7 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan 4, at 10AM at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 203 East Ave, Norwalk. Other services will be held privately.
