


Obituary of Talmadge Dickson, Jr.

Talmadge Dickson, Jr., age 96, a beloved husband, father and friend, transitioned from this life to eternal rest on February 21, 2025 at Norwalk Hospital with his beloved family at his side.
Talmadge, affectionately known as "Tam" life's journey began when he was born on June 24, 1928, to the late Talmadge Sr. and Mae Dickson in Norwalk, Connecticut. He was one of two children.
Tam received his formal education in the Norwalk public school system. He attended Benjamin Franklin Junior High School and Norwalk High School. During his high school years, he played basketball with the "Fab Five" and baseball with the Norwalk recreational league.
In 1949 Tam married his high school sweetheart, Miss Fannie Mae Burchett. Their wedding was held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 24 Knight Street, Norwalk, CT. Through their union five beautiful children were born: Gary (Salim), Gail, Wayne, Diana and David. Tam was a loving father, grandfather and friend.
He was employed as a Porter in the Maternity Ward at Norwalk Hospital. Several years later he worked for Burndy Corporation as night Manager/Supervisor of Maintenance until he retired 40 years later.
He loved being the family photographer. Wherever we went, his camera was in hand for all occasions. During the weekends, his favorite pastime was going to Calf Pasture Beach and Pete's Golf Driving Range.
In 1994, he and Mrs. Jeanette Brown entered into Holy Matrimony. They enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and playing cards, The following year she persuaded him to join her at the Norwalk Senior Center. He walked in, spotted the pool tables and from that day forward he began playing. He said it was good exercise, and a chance to get out of the house daily.
He loved the Art of playing Pool Billiards, mastering the art of aiming, cue ball control, and seeing the angles. He won several pool tournaments and also met with two famous female pool players, Ewa Mayaya Laurance known as the Striking Viking and Jeanette Lee known as the Black Widow at the Boston Billiard Club in Fairfield, CT. Their photos are above the chalkboard in the senior center's billiard room.
Talmadge was a faithful and committed member of Bethel AME Church - Norwalk, CT for 75 years. He was a member of the Bethel Men's Chorus and the Sons of Allen.
Those left to cherish his memory: wife Jeanette Brown-Dickson, daughters - Diana Dickson, Cossette Brown, son - Wayne Dickson, daughter-in-law - Shukriyyah Miller-Hasan, granddaughters - Malina Hasan-Brown, Fatimah Patrice Hasan, Dr. Tamara Dickson, Jennifer Silverman, Ashley Dickson, Shari Brown, Shayla Cabble, grandsons - Baa'ith Hasan, Jahad Cabble, Justin Dickson, great granddaughters - Nailah Hasan, Mecca Hasan Moss, Iyonnah Hasan, Jenelle Silverman great grandsons - Jayden Fisher, Quinton Bussey, Jahad Cabble, Jr., Javion Cabble, Kaleb Hilliard.
He was predeceased by his sister, Lena Dickson Lerner, daughter, Gail T. Dickson, sons Salim Hasan (f/ka) Gary T. Dickson, and David B. Dickson.
Visitation will be held on Friday February 28. 2025 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Bethel A. M. E. Church in Norwalk, CT. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk.
