


Obituary of Gloria Frances Morgan-Griffith

Gloria Frances Morgan-Griffin Godly Matriarch of the Morgan family exchanged mortality with immortality Friday, February first twenty-twenty five. Gloria was the youngest girl and the last survivor of the seven children born to the union of the late Robert L. Morgan Sr. and Laura L. Williams-Morgan, Sunday August 15, 1928, in Knoxville, Tennessee. At an early age Gloria was Baptized at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Knoxville in June 1941. Gloria was mother of four, Donald T. and Laurie T. Morgan, the late Dennis A. Morgan, and Genise A. Griffin.
Gloria F. Morgan received a formal education in the Knoxville public school system and graduated from Austin High School. While attending Austin High School, she was interested in sports and joined the women’s Basketball team called the Chicks, she was number 24. She continued her education by attending Lewis Business College in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated. After college she returned to Knoxville and became employed at the S&W Cafeteria where she worked, met, and married George Melvin Griffin. From that union, they had a daughter Genise A. Griffin.
Gloria relocated to Connecticut in 1965. On arrival she went right to work at Little Women’s Boutique, located in Greenwich, CT. Gloria had a keen eye for fashion and detail, landing a position as a buyer for the store. Many years later, Gloria was appointed to a position at the Second Taxing District Water Department and worked as an Accountant until retiring at the age of eighty.
Gloria was part of the Black Democrats Coalition in Norwalk where she served as Treasurer. She was an advocate of voting rights and encouraging people to register to vote. One of her sayings was “you can either vote for or vote against.”
Sister Gloria Griffin became a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church, in Norwalk, CT in the late 60’s and started serving. She was a member of the Women’s Guild, Kitchen Committee, Senior Choir, Mother’s Board, and the Scholarship Committee. Her high point was always promoting children to seek higher learning.
Gloria will dearly be missed by many especially her loving son Donald (Roselynne) Morgan of Atlanta, GA, daughter Laurie Morgan-James of Riverview, FL, nine Grandchildren Brian, Christa James-Carter, and Christian James’ Donna, Gloria, Donald, and David Morgan’ Morgan and Michelle Griffin, fourteen Great-Grand Children and one Great-Great-Grand Child, one Sister in-law Geneva Morgan of Detroit, MI, many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins. their families and loyal friends.
