Obituary of William St. Clair Burden
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William "Willie" St. Clair Burden was born on November 10, 1963, to the late Cleophus Burden and Georgia Bell (Oliver) Burden.
He was raised in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he attended Norwalk Public Schools. William was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and had a deep love for music and a passion for singing. His powerful voice and dedication to worship led him to direct and sing in several choirs in his lifetime, including the Mount Zion Youth Choir, MZB, Gospel Chorus, Male Chorus, and Senior Choir. He was also a member of the local quartet, The Community Disciples. Outside of music, William was a hardworking man who held positions at Marrakech, Magnatech, and Walmart. During the holiday season at Walmart, he brought joy to many by playing Santa Claus. He always made sure to tell his family to bring the kids to see him. Family was very important to William. He was affectionately known by his nieces and nephews as "Uncle Bill". In his downtime, he could be found hanging out with his sisters or spending time with his grandchildren. William also had a love for cooking and feeding people. Before falling ill, William would throw down in the kitchen and would always call his family to see if they "smelled that" so they knew to come get some food.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his life partner, Lorraine Bledsoe of Bridgeport, CT, his sons Justin Bledsoe (Michelle), Robert Tweedy, and Joshua Burden (Shabrina) all of Bridgeport, CT, and daughter Jasmine Tweedy (Brian) of Fairfield CT. He also leaves his pride and joys; his grandchildren Kailaah Adams, Janatia Bledsoe, Camren Adams, and Noah St. Clair Meli. Also to cherish his memory are his sisters Doris Martin, Ernestine Keeling, and Betty Burden all of Bridgeport, CT; Scottina (David) Bookhardt of Norwalk CT; a sister/friend Rachel Barnes of Stamford CT, and his Uncle Barney Burden of Norwalk Ct. In addition to his parents, Willie was predeceased by his brothers Cleophus and Albert Burden, and sisters Marilee Forney, Frazella Burden, Marthella Burden, and Isabel Burden. William is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
