Mrs. Barbara Jean Paulk peacefully transitioned at the age of 86 on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Born on April 16, 1938, in Baxley, Georgia, to Morgan Sweptson and Janie Bell Sead-Palmer, Barbara Jean was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, godmother, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Barbara Jean’s life was a remarkable testament to grace, resilience, and love, rooted in her deep faith and unwavering devotion to God. Her kindness, wisdom, and ability to bring people together left an enduring mark on everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her life was defined by her unconditional love for her family, her steadfast faith, and her remarkable ability to uplift those around her. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her laughter, and the joy she brought into the lives of others.
She was preceded in death by her children Larry D. Paulk, Antoinette M. Foreman, Frederick Paulk Sr., Tarsha L. Scovens, and her grandson Michael D. Fagan. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Connelly Palmer, Lois Dunham, James Ashley, Ronald Ashley, Edward Wells, Robert Lee Sweptson, Elijah Wells, and Lillie Mae Warren.
Barbara Jean is survived by her loving children Ozell Paulk (Kim), Sephelia Paulk, Travis Simms Jr. (Sandra), and Tarvis Simms (Maria), and her daughters-in-law, Delia Paulk and Luphelia Paulk, all from Norwalk, CT. She is also survived by her cherished siblings Elizabeth Ann Birdsong (Nathaniel) of Winter Haven, FL, and Billy Ashley of Fort Myers, FL.
Barbara Jean also leaves a cherished bond with her three godchildren, Trina Davis, Pastor Lavaughn Gay, and Olivia Dardy, whom she lovingly embraced as her own. Her warm, nurturing spirit left a lasting mark on their lives, and they will forever honor her memory, treasuring her guidance, her laughter, and her unconditional love.
Her treasured legacy will live through her grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory with love and gratitude. Each one of them carries a unique piece of Barbara Jean’s remarkable personality—her kindness, resilience, humor, and boundless love—ensuring that her spirit lives on in everything they do: LaQuanda Paulk, Abdullah Seifullah, Frederick Paulk Jr., Latesha Paulk, Cedric Paulk, Kairo Crosley, Shalonda Cruz (Maximo), Monique Simms, Travis Simms III, Christopher Simms, Brittani Simms, Terrence Williams, Donte Paulk, Derrick Paulk, Travon Simms, Gabriel Paulk, Tyrell Simms, Ivory Baldie, Briana Paulk, Shanyra Miller, Shantel Baldie, Elijah Paulk, Myah Simms, Carissah Scovens, and Jeremiah Baldie. Barbara Jean also leaves 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren who will honor her memory by carrying forward her legacy of grace, resilience and love to others.
Barbara Jean is also survived by her extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 21 Concord St., Norwalk, CT.
Officiant: Rev Carleton J. Giles
Entombment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk, CT.
