Andy S. Kydes, age 78, of Vienna, Virginia, passed away on March 15, 2023 after a lengthy battle with heart issues. Andy was born in Spilia, Greece, son of Parthena Lazaridou and Steve N. Kydes.

After growing up in Norwalk, Connecticut, Andy went on to graduate from Harvard University, where he was All-American in varsity soccer for two seasons. He then received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from SUNY at Stony Brook, New York.

Andy had a storied and successful career as an energy analyst for a variety of national labs, and ended his career working with the U.S. Department of Energy as a Senior Energy Analyst. He was instrumental in the development of the National Energy Modeling System, which enabled the Energy Information Administration to perform annual energy forecasting and modeling.

Andy is survived by his immediate family: his wife Pamela of 53 years; their three children and their spouses - Lenna and Pete Storm, Niko and Tina Kydes, and Parthena and Alexander Grushin; and his one grandchild, Clementine Kydes, daughter of Niko and Tina. Andy also leaves his two sisters, Irene Ramjeawan and Ruth Papadopoulos, and one brother, Philip Kydes, and a large extended family, mostly from the Norwalk, Connecticut area.

Andy had a love of poetry (some of his poems were published), traveling, and his beloved Washington Capitals team. He was happiest when all of his children were together to celebrate a holiday or birthday, and was often not in the photos as he was always taking them.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or World Central Kitchen, two charities Andy supported for many years.
